I have been on a kick of watching quirky documentaries. The latest,King of Kong - A Fistful of Quarters, the story revolves around two grown men who are wrapped up in holding the title for highest Donkey Kong Score. That's right, high score on the classic video game where Mario battles Kong to save the pretty lady. It turns out to be a crazy story of good vs. evil... or so it seems. You can be the judge. It has the craziest cast of characters, but remember this is a *real* documentary. At times it may seem like a spoof filled with stereotypes and caricatures. What makes this so quirky - is that it is a true story. It is wild to get a glimpse into the gaming subculture. More than a few times I wanted to yell at the TV screen - 'get a life'. It amazes me to think there is a group of people (Twin Galaxies) that dedicated themselves to certifying video game scores. Great ending to this true life story - it's worth a watch.
