P!nk wrote this song but gave it to Adam Lambert (who got a hit from it). She felt he sang it better.
I am not so sure - I think it is P!nk through and through. What do you think?

Where No Monument Stands
I spent the evening in a beautiful old church enjoying a folk concert. The headliner was John Gorka - who I had never heard before. During his second song I had a bit of a Gordon Lightfoot flashback ... I swear I cold hear Gord singing "The Wreck of the Edumnd Fitzgerald" off in the distance. By the third song, Gordon was gone and it was all John. He is rather quirky in person but if you close your eyes and listen to the music - you can't help but be moved.

We Love You Herbie!!
All day I have been wanting to spontaneously shout out 'We Love You Herbie!!"
Turns out the Hollywood Bowl is more than a great place for a picnic. It is a wonderful place to enjoy a concert.
Our evening featured an 'odd couple' of pianists and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Lang Lang is an amazingly over the top dramatic classical pianist and Herbie Hancock, is of course the revered and always groovy jazz pianist. This odd coupling worked and it fun watching them 'play' off each other all evening.
Tonight, Herbie was definitely the favourite. The entire evening was punctuated by spontaneous shouts of 'We Love You Herbie" from the audience. The accolades didn't seem to phase Lang Lang. In response, he took the microphone and added his own "I love you Herbie'!

The highlight of the evening was a free wheeling solo by Herbie. He owned the stage as he spun together a series of his tunes including “Cantaloupe Island,” “Dolphin Dance,” “Maiden Voyage” into a flowing, Impressionist improvisation.

Serendipity (Fair Bonus)
I came to the fair for the shoot out - but as an added bonus I stayed for the music.
When I first arrived at the fair I noticed a poster for Melissa Etheridge ... and the concert was tonight. What a fun surprise!!!

The concert was fabulous. Melissa managed to turn the fair grandstand into an intimate venue. It was just her on stage playing guitar, the occasional piano and singing her heart out. It was amazing to watch the sun go down over the ocean and stream through river mouth while enjoying a musical journey. She started out mellow but by the end of the night the place was rockin'. There were lots of hard core fans singing along and dancing in the aisles. The positive energy was contagious!

Loved Locked Down
I first heard this song in the concert Kanye gave after the Nike Human Race. That night was suppose to be the song's debut - but the groove was off and they aborted after the first chorus. A few weeks later the song premiered on ellen. Since then it has become one my iPod faves.

Drumming The Afternoon Away...
This afternoon I swung by The Community Drum Circle at Trolly Barn Park. The drum circle is lead by a music therapist and is a wonderful community event. The experience is all about each person finding their own voice and then bringing the individual voices together in community and harmony. The circle is different each time - a reflection of the mix of people participating. It is fun to see who shows up and who just wanders by and joins in. The kids playing in the park are drawn to the experience. I enjoy watching them drag their parents along and convince them to participate.
Today we had an amazing jam with a xylopone, a native woodwind instrument and a guitar mixed in with the drums. We did this improvisational tune for about 20 minutes and when it ended we all sat and looked at each other and went - "Wow, that was powerful!"

Recently, there was quite a hullaboo in my homeland about the the demise of the beloved Hockey Night in Canada Theme song. The CBC decided to run a contest and let 'the people' choose the new theme.

Community Drum Circle
Today I participated in a community drum circle. It sounds a little hippie dippie - but it is actually alot of fun!
The event took place at funky place called Trolley Barn Park in University Heights. The event was free and all you had needed to bring was your groove and a chair!
Here is what the flyer I rec'd said:
This is a musical experience like none other! Breaking the barriers of language, ethnicity, race, and gender, group drumming provides a safe and fun environment for creative expression... no musical talent or experience necessary! Making music in a group setting is powerful, synergistic, energizing and most importantly- FUN!
In American society, we go to concerts, politely sit down and listen, or perhaps we go dance at pop concerts. But the musicians are separate from the non-musicians. What happened to the communal music-making? WE'RE HERE TO BRING IT BACK! ...and it is exhilarating! Join us and express your own unbound sound!
It really was a community experience. There was an ecclectic mix of kids, parents, professionals, grandparents and misc folks who wandered over and joined in the fun!
The circle was led by music therapists from Sound Health Music. These facilitators have an amazing amazing ability to make everyone feel welcome, help us to find our individual sound and groove together as a group! Even I started to find a sense of rhythm!

Grey Day
This time last week we were enjoying full on summer weather. Today it is cool, overcast and gloomy.
First thing this morning I took a bike ride over to Torrey Pines State Park. There were lots of people hiking and bike riding - taking advantage of the cooler weather.

I have had a few quiet weekends in a row. I am getting itchy to head out on an adventure.
This weekend is 'get your house in order' weekend - so I am catching up on personal paperwork, e-mail and "stuff"! While sorting through paperwork - I watched the movie August Rush. The film has an ethereal fairy tale quality to it. It is worth watching, if only to be reminded that the world around us is alive with music ... we just need to listen for it!
