Day 8

Day eight of my nutritional cleanse adventure is drawing to a close!

Good news: I feel like the detox is working. I have even reluctantly accepted the idea of 'two almonds' as a delicious afternoon snack!

Fortunately, I have been feeling so well there has been little temptation to stray.

  • Sprinkles announces home cupcake delivery - sure I salivate but I can wait.
  • Helpful office mate drops off my favourite chips ... I take them home and put them in the cupboard for post cleanse.
  • unch time taunts of the amazing chocolate chip cookies from the DoubleTree... I look the other way.

I have been feeling good about my ability to resist ... perhaps even a little cocky. That is ... until.... today.

Let's just say my *friends* at the office kicked it up a notch. In celebration of R- 's birthday there was a little get together in the kitchen with THE MOST DECADENT chocolate cake. I stood quietly off to the side, thinking of the delicious two almonds waiting at my desk - but no one was going to let me get off that easy.

Below is a picture of R- in action!

Ha! I can not be foiled that easily! I got my handy dandy tupperware container ... scooped up a piece of cake and I am saving it for Saturday when we will enjoy a little post cleanse celebration.

One more day to go. Wish me luck!

Arnold Bucks!

California faces financial "Armageddon," as Arnold Schwarzenegger bluntly stated a few weeks ago. And yet Arnold and his fellow Republicans are rejecting compromises by Democrats to rescue our state from a catastrophic budget crisis, unparalleled in the history of California.

Because of the 2/3rds budget rule -- the super-majority required to pass a budget in the California state legislature -- and the failure to get that super-majority, Californians will be getting IOUs in the mail next week instead of financial aid checks or tax refunds.

Thought For The Day

Most of us never qualify for life's grand awards - no Oscar, Emmy or Nobel Prize.

But we all have a shot at one worthwhile pursuit - the chance to deliver quality in all that we do for others.

Inauguration T!

So on inauguration day I schleped my waffle iron to work and made waffles with strawberries, maple syrup and whip cream for everyone while wearing my inauguration T-shirt.

laugh. dance. change.

Quote of The Day

Help us then, now, Lord, to work for that day when nation shall not lift up sword against nation, when tanks will be beaten into tractors, when every man and every woman shall sit under his or her own vine and fig tree, and none shall be afraid; when justice will roll down like waters and righteousness as a mighty stream.

- Civil rights veteran Rev. Joseph Lowery, in his benediction to close the inauguration ceremony of President Barack Obama.

Happy Inauguration Day!

Reflecting the call for change, this film features 50 individuals revealing how they plan to personally participate in keeping America strong, proud and green.

"There's an assumption that this one man is going to take on his new job full-time and somehow wave a magic wand of change, and I don't believe that to be true. I think that we have to be the leaders, and that's not celebrities--I think that we as citizens have to be leaders of the movement that we want to create." - Ashton Kutcher

Beyond Belief

Two woman, both pregnant, who have never met, loose their husbands on Sept 11th, 2001.

This documentary follows Pattie Quigley and Susan Retik as they meet and together try to move beyond hatred and find hope in tragedy. Together they reach out to women in Afghanistan who have been widowed by the violence there. This film is both heart wrenching and inspiring as you watch these women journey through their grief, struggle with loneliness, riding their bicycles from ground zero to their home in Boston and eventually find gratitude and meaning as they travel across the world to meet their counterparts in Afghanistan.

War Made Easy

I watched the documentary 'War Made Easy' today. It takes a look back at the rhetoric and media coverage of war in america. is eerie seeing clips just from a few years ago and the lead up to the Iraq war.
